Andromeda Wen (b. 2007), is an SF based composer and multireedist. Her music explores the intersection of art and activism, using sound to respond to pressing social and ecological crises—from coral bleaching and oil spills to the erosion of democracy—and has been heard throughout the USA, Italy, and Austria. Her works have been performed by Friction Quartet, Hub New Music, International Contemporary Ensemble, PHACE, SOLI Chamber Ensemble and Telegraph Quartet, in Vienna, Austria, where she studied for a year, the Alba Music Festival in Italy and in the USA. She has studied at Tanglewood, Interlochen, the Walden School, and presently, SFCM pre-collegiate program and performs regularly with the Stanford Jazz Workshop Big Band. She recently scored a short film starring Lea Salonga.
In May 2025, her band was named a finalist with an honorable mention for outstanding sax section at the Essentially Ellington competition at the Lincoln Center. Her work has garnered multiple national awards, recently named first place in the Pacific Musical Society and Foundation Composition Competition, judged by Grammy Award Winner Mason Bates, and winner of the National Federation of Music Clubs Junior Composers Contest.
